What size poster fits above a sofa?

Above a two-seater sofa, one poster in 50×70 cm fits. Above a three-seater you need three posters side by side — a single image becomes too small. The rule of thumb is that the artwork, or the group, should cover around two thirds of the sofa's width.

Measure the sofa first

Measure the sofa from outer edge to outer edge, not just the seat. Multiply by 0.67. That number is the width your image, or your group of images, should hit.

Why three and not one large image

Our largest size is 50×70 cm. Above a wide sofa there is no single motif that can carry the wall — the width has to come from several posters. That is also why the series are drawn to hang together: same palette, same line, same light. See poster sets.

The gap between the posters

Keep 5 cm between frames when posters hang in a row. Less, and they melt into one surface; more, and they stop reading as a group. With large frames wider than 50 cm you can go up to 7-8 cm.

One caveat

These numbers assume a sofa standing against the wall with free wall above it. If you have a high sofa back, a shelf or a window in the way, height matters more than width — see how high a poster should hang. Prices are as of 5 August 2026 and apply to unframed posters.
