When Is Ramadan 2027?

Ramadan 2027 begins around February 8 and ends around March 9. Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the month, falls around March 10-11, 2027.

The date isn't fixed. The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, and each month begins with a new crescent moon — determined either by astronomical calculation or local sighting, depending on the country and community. That means the start can shift by a day in either direction, and can't be confirmed with full certainty until a few days before.

Why the date moves every year

The Islamic calendar has 354-355 days against the Gregorian calendar's 365 — about 11 days shorter. So Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar, cycling through every season over roughly 33 years.

Recent and upcoming years, for comparison

  • Ramadan 2025: began around March 1
  • Ramadan 2026: began around February 18
  • Ramadan 2027: begins around February 8
  • Ramadan 2028: begins around January 28
